Vanha Kauppahalli (Old Market Hall)

Vanha Kauppahalli (Old Market Hall)
Old Market Hall, Helsinki.

This morning (Monday), we checked out of our hostel but left our carry-on bags in the bag drop room so we didn't have to lug them around. Then we made the most of our final few hours in Finland by visiting two market halls before we needed to catch a mid-afternoon ferry to Estonia!

Here's Vanha Kauppahalli (Old Market Hall) in Helsinki. It's at the same harbour square from where we caught the ferry to Suomenlinna on Saturday and tried reindeer meat at the outdoor stalls yesterday...

The old wooden stalls looked fab!
Sizeable meringues!
Salmon sandwiches/subs.
There was a lot of fish!
Salmon tartar bread.
L-R: Smoked reindeer, reindeer, elk, bear.
€18 ($29.70 AUD) for these four crackers.
I loved all the colourful displays of food!
We gave the boys some Euros (duly noted in their travel ledgers, of course) so they could manage their own transactions. J chose a slice of chocolate cake.
Then they both had some gelato! The thing about travelling light is that their spending money pretty much has to be spent on edible things rather than souvenirs! 😄

Miscellaneous sights outside the market hall...

Lingonberries at the fruit and veg stall in the square.
Souvenirs.
Very cool button-operated public toilets in which the same receptacle was used for both toilet and hand-washing! There were buttons to (1) lock the door, (2) lower the seat, (3) raise the seat and flush, and (4) shoot hand-washing water into the toilet (from a spout higher up), followed by a blast of hand-drying air! 😱
