The Mac King Comedy Magic Show

The Mac King Comedy Magic Show
Mac King has had his own show in Vegas for 25 years.

An interview with F, J and B...

Our seats.

Who is Mac King and why did you go to see him?

F: Mac King is a comedy magic show, and we went to see him because that's the kinda thing you do in Las Vegas, you go to see magic shows.

What happened at his show?

F: Well, some of the tricks he did had him eating fake fish that we thought were real. He did some card tricks. And once he basically did something that involved no magic but was just hilarious. I'm not going to tell you what it was so you'll have to go see it for yourself.

J: It did actually involve magic.

F: Only that he'd already done before he started.

J: No, he did it during the thing.

What surprised you the most at his show?

F: Either him eating his own hamster, or a giant bear that shouldn't have been there jumping out of a tent.

J: The giant bear, eating his own hamster, a goldfish coming out of his mouth out of nothingness, and him catching a goldfish in mid-air.

B: The bear, absolutely. I mean, the cymbals thing, maybe, but the bear. That's what really made me jump.

What happened during the bear trick?

B: Mac King was making shadow puppets with a kid from the audience, using the front of a backlit camping tent. He started off with a simple dog. Then it moved up to a rabbit, which was really a cartoon rabbit outline. And then he started to prepare for a two-handed shadow puppet of a bear—

F: He asked the kid if he was scared yet. The kid said no, and then Mac King said "you will be". And then he put his hand inside the tent and a giant bear jumped out, roaring.

Was anything funny?

J: Fig Newtons.

F: The constant joke of Fig Newtons.

B: There was lots of funny stuff all through it. Mostly cringe-y, but still funny.

Which part of his show was your favourite?

F: When he teleported a card into his pants and duplicated it at the same time.

B: Honestly? Probably the bear thing. It was just perfectly executed. With the rabbit shadow... it made an exponential escalation.

J: No idea.

Could you figure out how he did his tricks?

F: A few, not all.

B: Some ideas for some of them, but not all.

How did the show end?

F: He dressed up as Siegfried and Roy and was doing a teleporting trick, and then he was suddenly standing behind us smashing cymbals.

What did you do when that happened?

F: Instantly clapped my hands over my ears and then turned around to see who it was.

J: Me too.

Were you scared?

F: Not really. When the bear jumped out, yes.

Would you have liked to be an audience volunteer?

J: Yes. Yes, of course. Why wouldn't I?

F: Sometimes, not always, because bad things did happen to them.

B: Absolutely.

Who do you think would enjoy this show?

J: Anyone that likes comedians. Anyone that likes funniness and magic.

F: Anyone that likes comedy and/or magic.
