Sarlat-la-Canéda

Here are some photos of beautiful Sarlat-la-Canéda in south-west France, where we stayed two nights (Thursday and Friday) in an apartment right in the medieval city centre, opposite the tourist information centre. This was the view from our bedroom window...

Shortly after our arrival...
...and looking the other direction a few hours later.

Sarlat was one of those places, like Tallinn's Old Town earlier in our trip, that made us ooh and ahh every time we turned a corner. B learnt during our visit that it was where Ever After was filmed. It really was like something out of a fairytale!

I loved these trees in the nearby carpark!
This busker played just along from our apartment. On Thursday night he was playing alone...
...and on Friday night he had a friend!

Check out the enormous doors in this video! You can see the boys ducking into a shop to say "des bonbons ou un sort" at the start.

This cute little burger joint was almost under our apartment. We had dinner there after our big bike ride on Friday. It's owned by a friendly Kiwi (Maori, we think) lady!
F and B declared these burgers among the best they'd ever eaten. But maybe that was the 22km talking.
The region is famous for its foie gras (goose liver). We didn't try any!

It was by chance that we ended up in Sarlat-la-Canéda — I'd never heard of it before and was initially looking for somewhere to stay in nearby La Roque-Gageac to break up the drive between Captain Haddock's château and Carcassonne. We are thrilled to have discovered gorgeous Sarlat!
