The Louvre is housed in a former palace. It has a surface area of 73000mΒ² and 35000 works of art on display.

Here are a few more photos from our visit to the largest museum in the world...

This glass pyramid is above a huge two-storey underground foyer that connects the Louvre's three wings.
In this pic you can see the end of one of the multiple queues for ticket holders waiting to go through security. This was at 11:30am and was the queue of latecomers like us who had booked earlier timeslots (11am in our case). People with 12pm tickets had to line up at another entrance, outside in the rain!
The queue was two thirds of the length of this walkway but thankfully moved pretty fast!
Being a Monday, this was probably a quieter day for the Louvre. Visitors are capped at 30000 per day.
Looking up through the glass pyramid.
This is the foyer under the pyramid. The thing in the middle of the spiral staircase is an elevator!
We followed the signs to the Mona Lisa as our first order of business, since we knew the museum would continue to get busier for the next few hours.
One of the long galleries leading to the room containing the Mona Lisa.
Me and Mones. πŸ˜‚ I gave up on getting any closer and spent my time looking at the other paintings in this room instead.
The boys got nice and close though!
B and a few of Mona's other pals. The painting opposite the Mona Lisa is the largest one in the Louvre.
The Wedding Feast at Cana.
J was inspired to sketch the Mona Lisa from the photo he'd taken of it on my phone. πŸ™‚
The ceilings were incredible!
J getting a lesson on how the BC/AD timeline works.
My view from our sketching spot.
Check out J's Louvre post for a few more pics showing the grandeur of Napoleon III's apartments!
Our first proper view of the Eiffel Tower as we exited the Louvre. (I say "proper" because we DO have a distant view of the top of it from our AirBnb in good weather!) F spotted it first.
B's panorama of the Louvre, taken with the Tuileries Garden parkland at his back.

It had been J's idea to go to the Louvre and see the Mona Lisa β€” it seems to have made a big impression on him when his teacher told the class about her own visit. (Hi 3A! πŸ‘‹πŸ») We all enjoyed our few hours there!
