Marzipan painting workshop

Marzipan painting workshop
Painting in progress!

On Tuesday afternoon, we did a marzipan painting workshop at Cafe Maiasmokk!

Before the workshop, we had a yummy lunch at Peppersack.

B and I shared moose meatballs...
... and meat soup. The boys had spicy chicken wings and a kids' meal with sausages and chips.

Cafe Maiasmokk is Tallinn's oldest cafe and has been operating since 1864!

Painted marzipan figures on display in the cafe.
Marzipan is made from almonds and sugar.
There are four dye colours (red, yellow, blue and black); all the other colours are made by mixing them.
All edible!

The lady at the cafe explained a bit about the process, with the help of a video that was playing on repeat, and then we each got to paint a figure.

F's penguin.
B's cat.
A's dog.
J's cat (with some help from B).

The cats and dog were made from the original 200-year-old metal molds. The penguin was made using a newer mold.

Then we ate them!
