First ski (of this trip)!

The boys have been desperate to go skiing again on this trip (after they had a day of skiing in New Zealand in September 2023). They were very disappointed that it was too early in the season to ski while we were in Europe, so they were very keen to get up to one of the local hills in Vancouver.

After some illness-related delays, the boys and I — together with Gerard, C and J — headed up to Mt Seymour for an afternoon session. Things started as a bit of a fiasco (parked in the wrong carpark = long walk, booking system issues = no record of our bookings, five visits to customer service ensued), but improved thereafter (50% discount on our bookings, thanks for making it right Mt Seymour).

Only one main run was open (the Mystery Peak Express), and it started out quite a bit steeper than the boys were used to. J adjusted pretty quickly and was soon zooming down the hill with Gerard and C (I subsequently only saw him as he zoomed past). With some coaching from J (thanks again J) and help from me, F got most of his confidence back by the end of a lengthy first run. And after that he snowplow-turned his way down the mountain a few more times with a lot more speed and joy!

F and his ski coach (J) waiting in line for the next run (quite a bit happier than he looked).

Both boys are looking forward to skiing again in Japan (hopefully its worth now having a CHECKED BAG 😮 full of ski gear for our last three flights of the trip).
