Down by the river

Down by the river

On Tuesday we had plans to head to a museum for our first day in Florence, but the boys were most keen to more closely inspect the river near our accommodation. We had seen a local "water rat" (castorino) on the way in on Monday night, and J especially was eager to explore.

Low light and zoomed in, but we're pretty sure this is a castorino.
Castorino in context (Monday night).

So we ended up spending a couple of hours exploring the river and didn't get to the museum after all (we did have a bit of a late start that day). Despite the inevitable wet feet, it was generally enjoyed by most.

J finding the "least wet feet" crossing of the river.
And guiding F at least part way across.
Inspecting a potential explorer pole.
F had to coach/coax/beg/bribe A across this apparently scary part of the bank (which we suspect in hindsight may be a castorino burrow).
Inspecting a storm drain.
Final exit from the river.
