Best of/ Worst of Awards – FOOD

Here are some awards for noteworthy moments, memories and learnings from our trip. This is the Food category; there are more categories to come!

Favourite Meal

A: Char siu wonton noodle in Singapore. Sweet and sour fish from a hawker centre in Singapore. Indian takeaway in Worthing, UK. Reindeer meat with lingonberry sauce and herbed veggies in Helsinki. Potato soup with salt-crusted dumplings made by Bree. Wah Wings in Port Coquitlam, BC. Belated Christmas lunch in Vancouver. I could go on!!

B: Pizza in Naples. Reindeer meat in Helsinki. Konbini meals in Japan, because they were delicious and cheap. Onion and slow-cooked egg thing made by our AirBnb host in Montelimar, France.

Favourite Burger

A: The beef burger at Diddly Squat Farm in the UK.

B: It's a toss-up between the Kiwi lady's burger in Sarlat-la-Canéda and Dragon Burger in Kyoto.

A: Biscoff crepe in Paris. Totoro-shaped chocolate cream puff in Tokyo.

B: Gelato in Italy.

F: Five-stack pancake tower with caramel sauce and whipped cream in Miami. Caramel glazed donut at an airport.

J: Crepe with Nutella, M&Ms and Oreo ice cream in Paris.

Weirdest Food

A: Frog with Dried Chilli meal at hawker centre in Singapore (did NOT try it).

B: Can't remember.

F: “Those little dried-out fishy things” (vendace in Helsinki; he tried it but did not like it).

J: Don't know.

My ekiben (bullet train boxed lunch) was also pretty weird!

Most Disgusting Food

A: Salted licorice.

B: Durian. And salted licorice.

F: Salted licorice.

J: Salted licorice.

Singapore and Japan.
