Best of/ Worst of Awards – AMENITIES

Best Toilets

Japan in general (heated seats/ toilet slippers/ amusing signs/ lots of interesting buttons to explore). And the fantastic public toilets outside Vanha Kauppahalli in Helsinki.

Cool space-age public toilets in Helsinki.

Worst Toilets

England (so often hard to find/ poorly maintained/ filthy). And the stomach-turning state of the toilet in a restaurant we ate at in Malaysia.

Didn't take any photos of disgusting toilets! Here's a squat toilet in Japan instead (we encountered these in several non-touristy restaurants).

Favourite Library

Oodi Library in Helsinki.

Oodi Library entrance.

Favourite Grocery Store

They were great everywhere in Europe, as were the konbinis in Japan. Helsinki’s Hakaniemi Kauppahalli (a market hall rather than a grocery store) was also fabulous.

Konbini meals in Japan.

Favourite Shopping Experience

A: All of the bookshops we visited.

B: Grocery shopping in general.

F: Toyshop in Akihabara in Tokyo.

J: Can't remember.

This incredible bookshop in Brussels was filled with graphic novels!

Country With The Best Amenities Overall

Japan (except for the lack of bins!).

We found a bin in Japan! That's photo-worthy!
