Best of/ Worst of Awards – ACCOMMODATION
Favourite Accommodation
The house outside Edgeworthstown, Ireland, from where we saw the Northern Lights. The apartments in Sarlat-la-Canéda (France) and Helsa (Germany) with gorgeous views. And the house in Wavre, near Brussels, that was part of an old farm complex and had lots of space.

Best Located Accommodation
Our hostel in Tallinn, Estonia, just steps away from the medieval city wall. And our AirBnb in Sarlat-la-Canéda, France, which looked down on the main market area in the centre of town.

Nicest Accommodation Hosts
ALL of our friends that we stayed with! Plus D&C, who let a norovirus-ridden family move into their empty rental suite. Also, the host of our Rome AirBnb, who agreed to the crazy foreigners’ request to call the phone repair business we were convinced was in possession of B’s stolen phone. And our Montelimar host, who cooked meals for us, communicated via Google Translate and told us he was one of the writers on The Crown!

Cheapest Accommodation
Nikko, Japan ($64.01/night). Also, outside of Paris, France was surprisingly affordable.

Most Expensive Accommodation
Ishiuchi, Japan ($258.38/night). But apart from this outlier, which was due to its being a snow resort, the countries where we paid the most for accommodation (and often had the least amenities in spite of that) were Singapore, the UK, Italy and the USA.

Dodgiest Accommodation
Our apartment in Malaysia, which was brand new and looked very nice at first glance... but the build quality was decidedly shoddy, and the kitchen was only for show (oven not connected; no utensils).

Countries With The Best Accommodation Overall
France and Germany.
