Ballintoy Harbour (i.e. the Iron Islands) and onwards

On Tuesday we set off for a scenic drive, as recommended by Sharon. While we didn't quite manage her recommended route, we still had a lovely (if very cold and windy) day. We actually ended up spending the most time wandering/hiking/clambering around Ballintoy Harbour (for the GoT fans among you, that would be the Iron Islands—among a few other scenes).

The boys had a ball clambering around the rocks and discovering rabbit holes. A and I made extensive (if not always effective) use of the picturesque surroundings (i.e. we took loads of photos but not all of them turned out). A and the boys (in borrowed gumboots) got to explore some of the local caves.

Heading up the crevice in search of bunnies.
Clambering...
...and more clambering.
After some stern warnings (little heeded), our two intrepid explorers braved the waves and crossed the seawall. After seeing a wave break up onto the wall, they were a little more leery on the way back!
Intrepid cavers.

A more extensive hike led us the other way from the harbour proper, to some lovely views...

...but most excitingly for lagomorphicly-deprived Queenslanders... bunnies! (For overseas readers, rabbits are banned as pets in Queensland.) Dozens of burrows and bunnies racing away from clomping boys led to great excitement.

Can you see the two bunnies in this photo?

After the (initial) bunny excitement, there was more walking, including A being coerced by the boys to climb up quite a steep hill for more cave exploring. I was coming down with something and feeling quite achey by this point, so resisted coercion to start with. I was eventually persuaded by the continued insistence from F regarding how amazing the view was (it was nice 🙂).

The walk back (post-tumbles) in anticipation of more bunnies.
