A's haikus — week 1

Something I started doing on our last holiday (a cruise back in February) is writing a haiku each evening to capture a moment/memory from the day. Haiku is a form of Japanese poetry consisting of three lines, with the lines having five, seven and five syllables respectively.

We have now been away from home for one week (out of 21.5!), so I thought I'd share my week 1 haikus... 😁

Day 1 • 5 Sept • Brisbane to Sydney to Singapore

Forgot the tablets.
Panic stations. Boys aghast.
Derek saves the day.

Day 2 • 6 Sept • Singapore

Indoor waterfall.
Beautiful, magnificent.
I am just in awe.

Day 3 • 7 Sept • Singapore

Fish eat our dead skin.
It feels weird. We all love it.
Highlight of our day.

Day 4 • 8 Sept • Singapore to Johor Bahru

No stove and no pans?
I have onion, snags and eggs.
Watch me cook a meal.

Day 5 • 9 Sept • Johor Bahru

Mimi takes us out.
Dinner, fruit stalls, durian.
What a treat it is!

Day 6 • 10 Sept • Johor Bahru

We wander on foot.
Find famous banana cake.
Later the boys swim.

Day 7 • 11 Sept • Johor Bahru

Monkeys on the bridge;
One on floating fish farm roof.
They evade photos.

By the way, thanks so much to those who are commenting as it's really helping motivate us to keep the blog up to date! We don't want to get behind as it just gets overwhelming. After four nights in Malaysia, we're back in Singapore this afternoon and tonight we're off to Finland! Better enjoy our last bit of warmth...
