Annecy on foot

Annecy on foot
Palais de l'Isle (Palace of the Island), Annecy.

On Thursday, while staying in Saint-Jean-de-Sixt, we drove half an hour to the town of Annecy, at the top of Lake Annecy. This extremely picturesque little town is apparently known as "the Venice of France" because of its canals!

Our first order of business upon arriving in Annecy was to eat our packed lunch. This was the first day we had upgraded from sandwiches to wraps, and we were all very happy about it! How's this for a lunch spot...

Look how clear the water was!

After lunch, we walked further into the centre of town, where we saw the lovely canals, the Palais de l'Isle, some buildings (or perhaps just the tops of them) being demolished, and lots of little flying insects!

Electric lake ferry. Very heavy charge cables!
A cute little electric bus.
A Christmas market being set up!
They seemed to be cleaning up the top level they'd knocked off these buildings.
This is the same worksite from a different angle later on.
The Palais de l'Isle used to be a prison (amongst other things).
This weir was on the other side of the bridge to the Palais de l'Isle.
This is the only photo I got that shows the swarm of tiny flying insects that were all through this part of town. You can see them shining in the sunlight.
Prison windows (I assume!) above the very shallow canal.
This tree/vine thing was growing out of a pot!!
Not sure about this idea of encouraging kids to dilly-dally in the middle of an intersection!

We'll share the rest of our Annecy adventures in the next post...
