A week in Barbados

A week in Barbados

Our time in Barbados was a wonderful mix of rest, rejuvenation and catching up with our friends there. B and I first went to Barbados 14 years ago and hope it isn't so long before our next visit!

We loved staying with our friends David and Kela, their son R and dog Rosco...

Swimming at beautiful beaches...

Miami Beach.
B and J accompanied David and R here for R's swimming lesson (beach name unknown).

Trying the local food...

We bought fish balls from this van in the carpark at Miami Beach!
The menu.
A fish ball. I think it's mostly plantain flour. It didn't taste particularly fishy!
Popular Bajan fast food chain Chefette.
My Chefette meal.
Oistins Fish Fry. It was here that we first met David and Kela in 2010 (and subsequently did a 2-week east US/Canada road trip with them after getting on so well that night!).
Our meal from Oistins. The middle box has fried flying fish (I remembered this from 14 years ago... it was nice, but not as delicious as in my memory!). The other boxes have marlin.
Fish fry feast on David and Kela's upstairs patio.

Seeing the sights...

Ragged Point Lighthouse.
Coconuts for sale by the roadside.
The seashore in Speightstown.
Speightstown Pier.
Fleeing the waves that splashed up through the pier!
Speightstown Pier.
Speightstown Pier.
Speightstown Pier.
ICEing seems to be a bit of an issue in Barbados too.
Up he goes!
Spot the coconut harvester!
Tsunami evacuation route.
Weaving through the side streets of Speightstown to find Chefette.
A roadside rooster.
Barbados is mostly quite clean, but this ditch near Chefette was an exception!
Success! We found Chefette!

And just generally having some downtime...

It was wonderful to be in Barbados again. We really enjoyed having a bit of a break from sightseeing / rushing around / driving long distances / taking public transport / blogging. We also (mostly) loved the sunshine and 28-30°C days!
